Job Title: Legal and Compliance Officer
Reporting To: Chief Operations Officer
Job Overview: The Legal and Compliance Officer will be responsible to ensure that we operate in a legal and ethical manner while meeting our business objectives.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement an effective legal compliance programme;
- Acting as MLRO for the company;
- Conducting know-your-client (KYC) and due diligence processes;
- Ensuring that AML and KYC requirements and procedures are always properly followed;
- Implementing and monitoring proactive risk management policies and procedures;
- Create sound internal controls and monitor adherence to them;
- Draft and revise company policies;
- Proactively audit processes, practices and document to identify weaknesses;
- Evaluate business activities to assess compliance risk;
- Collaborate with external audits and HR when needed;
- Set plans to manage a crisis or compliance violation;
- Educate and train employees on regulations and industry practices;
- Address employee concerns or questions on legal compliance;
- Ensuring compliance with multi-national anti-money laundering laws and sanctions, and assisting with
- the reporting of suspicious transactions;
- Keep abreast of internal standards and business goals.
Requirements:
- Possess a Doctorate of Laws or a Legal Degree with a M
- Knowledge of legal requirements and controls (e.g. Anti Money Laundering);
- Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards;
- Knowledge in KYC due diligence best practices;
- Previous experience in similar roles within the financial services industry would be considered an asset;
- Proficient in MS office applications;
- Excellent communications skills in both English and Maltese.
