Job Title: Legal and Compliance Officer

Reporting To: Chief Operations Officer

Job Overview: The Legal and Compliance Officer will be responsible to ensure that we operate in a legal and ethical manner while meeting our business objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an effective legal compliance programme;
  • Acting as MLRO for the company;
  • Conducting know-your-client (KYC) and due diligence processes;
  • Ensuring that AML and KYC requirements and procedures are always properly followed;
  • Implementing and monitoring proactive risk management policies and procedures;
  • Create sound internal controls and monitor adherence to them;
  • Draft and revise company policies;
  • Proactively audit processes, practices and document to identify weaknesses;
  • Evaluate business activities to assess compliance risk;
  • Collaborate with external audits and HR when needed;
  • Set plans to manage a crisis or compliance violation;
  • Educate and train employees on regulations and industry practices;
  • Address employee concerns or questions on legal compliance;
  • Ensuring compliance with multi-national anti-money laundering laws and sanctions, and assisting with
  • the reporting of suspicious transactions;
  • Keep abreast of internal standards and business goals.

Requirements:

  • Possess a Doctorate of Laws or a Legal Degree with a M
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and controls (e.g. Anti Money Laundering);
  • Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards;
  • Knowledge in KYC due diligence best practices;
  • Previous experience in similar roles within the financial services industry would be considered an asset;
  • Proficient in MS office applications;
  • Excellent communications skills in both English and Maltese.
